Greetings Friend of The North Fork Table and Inn,

   The Coat check Closet put in a vacation request, it wants the rest of the month off. Should I grant it? It's probably going to go to Padre Island and wind up in some spring break video. Maybe I'll wait till May just in case my friends at weather.com have any more surprises in store.

    I've promised you exciting wine events and now I shall deliver. I present the first annual "Tour de Forks"! In the spirit of La Paulée, we will be organizing an event that will provide both you and the local wineries the reason to open those special vintage East End bottles and to share them with friends.
    In case you aren't familiar with the format (and I urge you to click on the above link) this is basically a fancy BYOB party. We will provide you with a communal venue and Feast to enjoy the wines you've been waiting for a "special occasion" to open. We will shut down the restaurant so you and your like-minded fellows can "geek out" and perhaps even engage in a little friendly one upsmanship! It almost goes without saying that the food will be on par with the juice. Not only will you be hobnobbing with the wine elite out here, the lovely and gregarious (and probably overqualified) Lettie Teague will be on hand to MC the festivities. That's so exciting I just gave myself the shivers! I could go on and on but the most important thing to take away from this is that it's going to be fun, fun, fun!

    If you haven't heard, The North Fork Table is involved in Wine Camp. We provide rooms and one of the dinners during this 4-day, 3-night, hands-on adventure. If you think you know the Long Island wine scene, this will be an eye-opening experience.    Welcome to those of you who have just joined us. I promise to only send out these little notes (as irreverent as they may be, they are very informative) when something of import is impending.

    For a final thought, I will link you to the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. They've been doing their thing since the early '30s, don't you think that we have the building blocks in place for that kind of passion?
